Cole Hamels of Phillies earned a five-game suspension by , Major League Baseball for intentionally hitting Nationals’ standout rookie Bryce Harper  with a pitch during Philadelphia’s 9-3 win over Washington on Sunday night.

The 2008 World Series MVP was suspended for intentionally throwing at the Washington rookie in the Philadelphia Phillies' 9-3 win over the Nationals on Sunday night.

Unless appealed, Hamels was scheduled to begin serving his suspension later tonight when the Phillies host the New York Mets.

In addition to the 5-game hiatus, ESPN reports the infraction will also cost the hard-throwing lefty an undisclosed amount of cash.
